Conservative commentator and political activist Candace Owens just said she would be filing a lawsuit against Facebook’s third-party fact-checkers over censorship issues. One of Owen’s social media posts about coronavirus was flagged for “misinformation” on Facebook. The piece was originally posted by a doctor and had already been verified by one of social media’s independent fact-checkers.
“Quite literally a doctor gave his opinion about COVID-19, which I shared, and Facebook issued a strike on my account because they said only information that they agree with about COVID-19 was acceptable,” Owens explained on Fox News.
Owens launched a website “Fact-Check Zuck” to help fund her legal battle moving against the social media giants. Defendants include USA Today and Lead Stories Fact Checker. Both of these third-party fact-checking Facebook partners will be sued for applying content ratings and applying labels such as “false,” “misleading,” or “missing context.” She hired a pair of high-powered attorneys, including Todd McMurtry who was part of former Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann’s legal team.
Owens talked about her experience with Facebook and how it demonetized her page after the incident. She explained that she could no longer make money off of the social media platform, which was the main motivation for her lawsuit. She also cited the multiple times this happened to President Trump for “allegedly baseless claims” and “misleading information.”
The political activist shared her website and lawsuit against Facebook in a Twitter video, including a link to the website. Users tweeted out their support to Owen, saying they want to live in an America where large tech companies stop discriminating against black conservative online businesses.
Candace Owens has been a fearless and confident human being fighting for the American people. She isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in and take on the big tech companies.
Left-leaning politicians, news networks, and social network platforms continue to censor information if it doesn’t fit their narrative. It’s time for that narrative to stop running wild. The truth always comes out.
