Lately I have been thinking about sailing, The odd thing about that is that I know nothing about sailing. This is my second time living in Hawaii and I plan on making it my final move. I spent four years here when I was younger with the military and lived in Kaneohe. Sometimes I find myself at Ala Moana and just sitting and watching the boats, I wonder what it would be like to have a sailboat. A year ago, I met an actual sailor who took others out and taught people how to sail, so he has been on my mind as well. It just seems like great idea to own a sailboat if you are going to live on an island surrounded by water. How convenient would it be to be able to sail to the neighboring islands and have a place to live for your stay? Imagine the sights and the memories you can make while sailing to these destinations, hopefully I get to experience this adventure one day and call myself captain.
The real struggle that prevents me from this being a reality is the cost. Sailboats that you can liveaboard are not cheap, I have been looking. Then there is the cost to be able to keep it docked somewhere, they call that a slip that you must obtain and pay monthly. Then there is the cost for the upkeep and repairs that a boat would require, so for now my dream is just a dream. This brings me to something else I would like to remind others of, …dreams. In the Bible dreams were way more than what we think of them now, they were a form of communication. There was a man named Daniel who had dreams from God and Daniel later interpreted dreams for others. A man named Joseph had a dream from God about his future and becoming a great leader. God spoke to people in dreams back then and I see no reason why he would not continue to do that now. The real question is are we listening?
Have you ever had a dream and wanted to remember it but could not? Maybe you had a dream and remember bits of it but not all the dream. When a person sleeps, there body is resting which means the thought process is at rest, the emotions are at rest, if there was ever a time your defenses was down it would be while you were sleeping. If God wanted to speak to someone, the easiest time to do that would be when the body and all its responses were at rest. I believe God is always speaking in one way or another, I also believe we must get better at understanding the ways he chooses to communicate. These random thoughts, these dreams that seem to make no sense, these are the things that we need to pay attention to. God may be trying to communicate something to you in a dream because even though you are not thinking about him, He is always thinking about your you! Want proof?
Every single moment you are thinking of me!
How precious and wonderful to consider
that you cherish me constantly in your every thought!
O God, your desires toward me are more
than the grains of sand on every shore!
When I awake each morning, you are still with me. (Psalm 139 17:18 TPT)
We are living in a time where many people are confused, many people are hurting, and many people are just looking for answers that make sense in their life. We are just coming off a pandemic which has left many in scenarios and situations they have never been in before. I think now, more than ever before, we all need to find solutions that are the best possible direction we can move forward with. That “best” answer will only come from God! We need God’s remedy for a struggling person, family, home, state, country. God gave his only son to save the world, so it is only logical to say that God has a huge interest in the people of it. I am sure that we all have individual questions that we are struggling with, and the point of this is to point you in the direction of one that can help you. If you are struggling to find answers, pay attention to dreams or random thoughts that you know are not your own, they could be God’s thoughts for you to discover.
I would still like to find a sailboat, even though I do not know how to sail. I know that I personally would not normally think about such things or the possibility of absorbing such additional costs. But I know God speaks, and I know how I have heard him before in similar ways and that intrigues me even more than the boat. I do not want to miss an opportunity that God may have for me because I feared the idea. Jesus spent time on boats, Jesus even preached and taught others while standing on a boat. Jesus took naps on boats! The Bible encourages us to live as close of a life to Jesus as we can, so this could be another way for me to do that. God may not be telling you to get a sailboat, but I do know this, God is telling you something! Do not let the world “take the wind out of your sails”, Seek God, listen and “go full speed ahead” with him as your captain.
